Having full-time faith

Recently, I made the transition from being a full-time pastor to being a full-time coach and consultant. Many people have asked me how I did it.

The answer is having full-time faith, but more specifically, believing in the dreams God has given you.

Genesis 37:5a NIV “Joseph had a dream…”

I believe dreams are God-inspired and God-powered. Joseph’s contribution to history was serving as one of the great patriarchs of the Hebrew people, whose dream enabled him to transition from prison to the palace. Although Joseph’s story is one we celebrate today, the process of fulfilling the dream God had for him was not a fast track and was filled with many challenges and disappointments. As you dare to live your dream, remember your dream is God-inspired and God-powered, and your dream will come true. Take time to give God thanks for the dream, and know if your dream doesn’t come true tomorrow, don’t give up; your dream will come true eventually.

Habakkuk 2:2 CEB “Write a vision, and make it plain upon a tablet so that a runner can read it.”

Writing is an act of faith. Once you receive your dream, the next step is to write your dream as the Prophet Habakkuk was instructed by God in the Bible. Writing is a discipline that takes your thoughts; concepts; prayers; hopes, and dreams and commits them to paper or digital press. Once committed, it is an act of faith because you are telling the world, “God is up to something in my life.” Take time to commit your dreams to paper or digital press and begin sharing your dream with someone you trust.

Judges 4:6 CEB [Deborah] sent word to Barak, Abinoam’s son, from Kedesh in Naphtali and said to him, “Hasn’t the Lord, Israel’s God, issued you a command? ‘Go and assemble at Mount Tabor, taking ten thousand men from the people of Naphtali and Zebulun with you.

The Prophet Deborah was one of the most famous judges of Israel who was called by God to protect and fight for her people. She called on other leaders, such as Barak, to support her vision. In the end, she gained the victory because she built a team and fought the battle in faith. Your greatest wins will never be in solo battles. In addition, your greatest achievement will never be during moments of isolation. There is always a need to build a team of supporters to help you overcome and win the race. Riding solo may feel more comfortable because the only person you look out for is yourself. In the end, riding with a team will always guarantee a win. Who are the three people you need on your team to achieve your dream?

Philippians 1:6 CEB  “I’m sure about this: the one who started a good work in you will stay with you to complete the job by the day of Christ Jesus.”

This scripture reminds me that God started something great in my life and promised to never leave me until my dream; future; blessing; miracle comes to pass. A powerful coaching question I live my life by is, "What is your first next step?" Since you know God will never leave you, why don't you take the first next step to achieving your dream? It may feel uncomfortable and scary, but you can do it because God is with you. Over the next couple of days, dare to map out your first next step to achieving your dream.
