Executing Your Vision

Vision is your North Star that guides all decisions and actions. But having a vision is not enough—you also need to execute it. This involves convening a team, starting a new conversation and narrative, and asking questions. In this blog post, we will discuss each of these four steps in detail!

Never do anything without help. Silo vision, in most circumstances, does not have the ability to lead to change. You may choose to have a team of individuals who support you in thinking through your ambition or else pick a new group of people each time you have a vision talk. Both methods have advantages and disadvantages, but the good news is that you can try out different approaches until you find what works best for you.

The second step is to start a new conversation and narrative. This means that you need to be clear about what your vision is and be able to articulate it in a way that others can understand. When leading a team, you may encounter negative conversations about your vision. That's when it's time to hit pause and start a new conversation.

The third step is to ask questions. This may seem like a no-brainer, but it's worth repeating. Curiosity and questions are usually the catalysts for interesting discussions. At the outset, curiosity enters the picture. Each of the group members should be genuinely interested in the subject of discussion and feel secure enough to offer ideas, as well as ask questions.

Here are a few starter questions to consider:

• If there were no limitations, what would we do?

• Who can help us to achieve the vision we are developing?

• As we clarify the vision, who or what is our target audience?

• How can your skills and talents help us execute the vision?

I saved the best for last. Failure is natural and expected in terms of vision planning and execution. You have to include problems and mistakes into your vision plans since no plan ever succeeds without difficulties.

Now that you know the process of executing vision, it is up to you, and don’t forget about the runners God mentioned to Habakkuk who are passing by each and every day. Will your vision be bold and clear enough for them to read it and be inspired by it as they are running the marathon of life? Continue writing your vision and making it plain. I will see you at the finish line of your next.

“Then the Lord answered me and said, write a vision, and make it plain upon a tablet so that a runner can read it. There is still a vision for the appointed time; it testifies to the end; it does not deceive. If it delays, wait for it; for it is surely coming; it will not be late” Habakkuk 2: 2-3 (CEB).
